The Former Schmidt Brewery property in St. Paul is targeted for redevelopment with high density residential and combined commercial/retail uses. The main structures at the Site have a historic designation and will be renovated while other newer structures will be demolished.
In 2008, Peer was retained to complete a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment for the Site, conduct Hazardous Materials Surveys for the various Site structures targeted for demolition and/or renovation (included testing for asbestos and lead paint), and prepare a response action plan (RAP) outlining environmental requirements for successful redevelopment. Peer also corresponded with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup (VIC) Program to obtain RAP approval.
Peer’s work was completed under a compressed schedule to facilitate preparation and submittal of environmental cleanup grant application through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and Metropolitan Council Tax Base Revitalization Account (TBRA). The cleanup grant applications for the project were submitted to the respective agencies in May 2008, and the project was awarded approximately $1.6 million in grant monies.
